Chelsea vs Southampton result: Player ratings as Frank Lampard’s side suffer surprise defeat
Chelsea 0-2 Southampton: Listless Blues consigned to loss after goals from Michael Obafemi and Nathan Redmond
Chelsea stumbled to a surprise 2-0 defeat against Southampton at Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard's side came into the fixture riding a wave of momentum after defeating Tottenham last week. However, they came unstuck in the first half as teenager Michael Obafemi capitalised on a comedy of errors to curl into the far corner against the run of play.
Lampard reverted from a back-five at half time and introduced Mason Mount, but his side still struggled to inspire any openings in Ralph Hasenhuttl's well-organised defence.
Nathan Redmond then ensured the Saints of victory after 73 minutes, guaranteeing daylight between the club and the relegation zone, while defeat leaves Chelsea's top-four credentials uncertain.
