Christian Benteke has apologised for claiming he played for Burnley on his official Twitter account hours after signing for Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old striker completed his £32m move to the south London club from Liverpool on Saturday morning but confusion reigned following an edit to his profile on the social network.

Benteke’s biography was changed to “Burnleyl (sic) FC & Belgium national team,” while his location was also switched to ‘Burnley, England’.

The Belgium international has now apologised for the error.

“Oops my bad lol,” he wrote in a tweet. “Yes I signed for cpfc and not burnley. Sorry for the little mistake the person that manages my Twitter got a little confused.”

Benteke’s biography has now changed to “CPFC & Belgium national team”, while his location has reverted to “Liverpool, England”.

Benteke has become Palace’s all-time record signing, surpassing the £13m acquisition of Andros Townsend from Newcastle United in July.

The 25-year-old, who joined Liverpool for £32.5m from Aston Villa last summer, scored 10 goals in 42 appearances in his single season at Anfield.
