Premier League weekend round-up

Mauricio Pochettino is continuing to give little away over Christian Eriksen’s future at Tottenham, admitting that the club will have to take into account the Dane’s preferences as they attempt to tie him to a long-term deal.

The playmaker has 17 months left on his current contract and is yet to commit his future to the north Londoners, as many of his team-mates have.

Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Heung-Min Son have all signed new terms in recent months, but talks with Eriksen remain ongoing.

Speaking ahead of Tottenham’s Boxing Day clash with Bournemouth, Pochettino warned of the game’s unpredictability when it comes to these matters but insisted he was striving to achieve the best outcome for the club.

When asked about Spurs’ attempts to secure a new contract for Eriksen, the Argentine said: “Football is so dynamic and changing every day, every season.

“You know there are many things that depend, it’s not only your decision, it is always [the] player’s decision.

“But now is a moment to enjoy our present and, of course, he is a person that the club, or the player environment, they are getting for the future. But now we need to be focused. Players like him are focused and try to deliver a great job and performance in the way that we need.

“And of course the decision is going to happen at the end of the season or another decision is going to happen in the next few days, in January.

“Football is so dynamic, it is about decision, decision, decision, decision. And hope that we are going to take the best decision for the club, hope that the player can take the best decision for them and their future and for the club.

“It’s about negotiation, it’s about many things that happen but I say again, football is so dynamic you need to move on and move on move on.”
