Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has handed handed Rickie Lambert a starting place for the visit to Crystal Palace.

Selhurst Park holds traumatic memories for the Reds after appearing to throw away the Premier League title there last season.

Jordan Henderson, illness, and Mario Balotelli, groin, miss out as Rodgers starts with a forward trio of Lambert, Coutinho and Raheem Sterling.

Neil Warnock, however, has put his faith into the attacking pair of Marouane Chamakh and Dwight Gayle.

The Premier League strugglers dropped into the bottom three yesterday after Leicester City's 0-0 draw with Sunderland.

Liverpool: Mignolet; Manquilloi, Skrtel, Lovren, Johnson; Allen, Gerrard, Lallana; Coutinho, Lambert, Sterling.

Palace: Speroni; Kelly, Delaney, Dann, Ward; Jedinek, Ledley; Bolasie, Puncheon, Chamakh, Gayle.
