Tottenham goalkeeper Carlo Cudicini has signed a new one-year contract, the club have confirmed.

The Italian underwent surgery on his right wrist and pelvis after a motorbike accident last November, which ruled the player out for the rest of the season.

Cudicini has now resumed training and will work with goalkeeping coach Tony Parks over the summer to improve his fitness ahead of the new campaign.

Head of medical services Wayne Diesel told club website www.tottenhamhotspur.com: "We are delighted at how well Carlo has progressed.

"He has shown a great deal of self-discipline and motivation to come back from this."

The 36-year-old moved to White Hart Lane from London rivals Chelsea in January 2009 and made four first-team appearances in the second half of the 2008-09 term and featured on seven occasions in 2009/10 before the accident.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp revealed after the incident, which happened when Cudicini was on his way to training, that he was unaware the player rode a motorbike.

"We don't let them do it," he said. "I've never even thought about a player riding a motorbike. We didn't know he had a bike and I'm sure he won't be riding one again to work."
