CHELSEA CLOSE IN ON HIDDINK

Guus Hiddink has edged towards a second stint as interim manager at Chelsea after holding talks with Stamford Bridge bosses.

The 69-year-old Dutch boss arrived in London on Friday to meet with Chelsea chiefs over a short-term role to replace Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich arrived at the club's Cobham base on Friday, observing training but also overseeing negotiations with former Holland manager Hiddink.

Hiddink told Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf he would listen to Chelsea's proposals before deciding whether to return to the club he coached to the FA Cup title in 2009.

"I want to get some good insight before I make my decision," said Hiddink.

"I want as much information as possible.

"Chelsea are in a bad situation and there are reasons for that.

"Whether or not I'm visiting their next match depends on my first conversation.

"Then I'll decide if I should stay in London longer."

TERRY THANKS MOURINHO

Chelsea captain John Terry has posted an emotional message on Instagram thanking Jose Mourinho for the "unbelievable memories" following the manager's dismissal.

Mourinho was fired on Thursday after overseeing a dire defence of the title he led the club to just seven months ago. With nine defeats in 16 Premier League games, Mourinho left the club for a second time with his side just a point above the relegation zone.

KLOPP APOLOGISES TO PULIS

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp offered an apology to West Brom manager Tony Pulis for his behaviour during and after last weekend's heated encounter.

The pair interacted with each other on a number of occasions during the feisty 2-2 Premier League draw at Anfield and Klopp did not exchange the customary handshake with his opposite number.

Speaking immediately after the match, Klopp said he had not shaken hands because "it was not a friendly game" and also criticised West Brom's style of play.

Pulis clearly was still stewing over the incident when he spoke to the media on Friday and argued Klopp's criticism was to deflect attention from the Reds' failings.

The Welshman said: "'We apologise. We actually played three longer passes in 99 minutes than what Liverpool played in that game.

"But if I had a team that was worth £200million, playing against a team that was worth less than £20million and we never won that game, I'd be doing my best to divert it away from the fact that I had 10 times more value on the pitch than my opposition and couldn't win."

DE GEA HAILS TERRIFIC UNITED 'SPIRIT'

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea insists there is a "terrific spirit in the dressing room" at the club.

Amid a run of five games without a win in all competitions and criticism of the team's style under boss Louis van Gaal, reports have suggested there has been player unrest in the United camp.

But Van Gaal dismissed such talk on Friday at his press conference to preview Saturday's home Barclays Premier League clash with Norwich.

And in an interview with MUTV that appeared on United's website later in the day, De Gea said: "When you're going through tough times, that's when you become a very close unit and that is what we are.

"We have a terrific spirit in the dressing room, we're all very much together and we're all pulling in the same direction to do the very best we can for the club.
