Everton vs Man City result: Player ratings as Raheem Sterling seals tense victory at Goodison Park
Pep Guardiola’s side remain five points adrift of Liverpool after a hard-fought win
Manchester City defeated Everton 3-1 in a tense encounter at Goodison Park to maintain the pressure on Liverpool in the Premier League title race.
Pep Guardiola’s side kicked off eight points behind their rivals against a wounded Everton looking to bounce back from consecutive league defeats.
Gabriel Jesus headed City into the lead after 24 minutes, however, Marco Silva’s side rallied to equalise as Dominic Calvert-Lewin finished off a fine move by Seamus Coleman.
With the match level in the second half, both sides had clear opportunities to take the lead before Riyad Mahrez capped his standout display with a whipped low free-kick to break the deadlock.
Ederson then produced a fantastic reflex save to deny Yerry Mina’s header before Raheem Sterling’s 100th career goal sealed the victory. See our player ratings from the match:
