Manchester United suffered a humiliating 4-0 humbling at Everton to suffer yet another setback in their hopes of finishing in the Premier League’s top four.

Everton never looked like losing the match after taking an early lead, and the 2-0 advantage that they took in at the break was doubled in a one-sided second half that now leaves United three points off the top four and starting to drift away in sixth place.

Richarlison looked the liveliest of Everton’s three-pronged attack as he missed an early chance, but the Brazilian more than made up for it as he acrobatically volleyed the ball in from above Diego Dalot’s head to put Everton ahead.

The lead was doubled before the break thanks to a long-range effort from midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson, although while the ball was powerfully struck past David de Gea from distance, the Manchester United goalkeeper was slow to react to continue his run of poor form.

Any hopes of a United comeback were killed off midway through the second half when left-back Lucas Digne volleyed home a De Gea punched-clearance from a corner, striking the ball home from outside the area.

And United’s misery was complete when former Arsenal forward Theo Walcott broke free and slid the ball past De Gea into the back of the net for the fourth.
