Fantasy football scout tips gameweek 5: David Silva, Callum Wilson, James Maddison, Danny Ings and more
How many of our picks are in your team?
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Callum Wilson
Despite blanking against Chelsea before the international break, Callum Wilson’s form for Bournemouth remains hard to ignore.
Back-to-back goals on the first two weekends were followed by two assists in the draw with Everton, but Wilson’s forthcoming schedule is his real selling point.
Starting with Leicester City at home on Saturday, Bournemouth embark on a run that includes Burnley (A), Crystal Palace (H), Watford (A), Southampton (H) and Fulham (A).
David Silva
‘El Mago’ was overlooked somewhat at the start of the campaign, with his namesake Bernardo earning a lot of attention, but the price of one Silva falls, another rises.
Having retired from Spain duty last month, David Silva sat out of the recent internationals and looks the safest bet among Manchester City’s midfielders for the enticing visit of Fulham.
At £8.5m, Silva comes in cheaper than midfielders of a similar calibre, having scored an excellent 169 points last season.
Matt Doherty
Highlighted in pre-season as one to watch, Wolves’ Matt Doherty did not have the most auspicious of starts to the new season.
An unfortunate own goal in defeat to Leicester City saw the Republic of Ireland international earn -1 point and shed almost 17,000 owners.
A clean sheet and adventurous display last time out against West Ham offers new promise though, as does Wolves’ favourable set of forthcoming fixtures.
James Maddison
Another to be tipped by us before the start of the new campaign, James Maddison has lived up to his pre-season billing thus far.
After a goal and a nine-point haul on the second weekend, he registered an assist in the defeat to Liverpool, bringing him up to 18 points from his first four outings.
Maddison’s Leicester City travel to Bournemouth this weekend and his set-piece speciality could prove useful against Eddie Howe’s questionable defence.
Danny Ings
If Danny Ings can maintain fitness over the course of the campaign, expect to see him in plenty of squads as budget forward option.
Two goals in four games for Southampton is a promising start for a striker who is not shy when it comes to peppering the opposition’s goal with shots.
Brighton and Hove Albion visit St Mary’s on Monday night with a poor away record. Ings could well capitalise.
Ones to watch: Alex McCarthy, Marcos Alonso, Jannik Vestergaard, Pedro, Cenk Tosun
