Crystal Palace have sacked Frank de Boer less than a day after chairman and part-owner Steve Parish insisted "we have to stick together".

The Dutchman went into Sunday's game against Burnley under severe pressure and while Palace put in an improved performance at Turf Moor, the 1-0 reverse condemned the side to four defeats from their first four Premier League games.

With fans questioning Parish on Twitter on Sunday evening, criticising the club's running over the summer, the chairman insisted that togetherness was the way forward.

"We are four games in, it's a terrible start but we have to stick together," Parish wrote.

It was one of a number of tweets from Parish that look questionable in light of Monday morning's sacking.

Another included: "I'm defending everyone at the club who's working their arse off to turn this round. Football teams lose games it happens."

Parish also retweeted a message from winger Wilfried Zaha which similarly spoke of a need for unity.

"It's easy to point fingers right now which won't solve anything!" the 24-year-old wrote. "Let's just stick together and get through it like we always do."

De Boer, who now holds the unenviable record of shortest managerial reign in the Premier League, is expected to be replaced by former England boss Roy Hodgson.
