Newcastle United have been watching the Cardiff City central defender, Daniel Gabbidon, as Graeme Souness looks to tighten up his defence.

Souness has also been keeping an eye on Manchester United's John O'Shea and Jean-Alain Boumsong of Rangers.

But Laurent Robert has expressed his unhappiness at being left on the bench. The winger claims Souness has gone back on his word to play him in home games after leaving him on the bench for eight out of nine matches since he took over.

Robert said: "The first time the manager talked to me he said I am on the bench away, but at home I will play. He changed the decision, that's not very good. I don't really know if the chairman or manager like me. I have been at Newcastle for four seasons and I would prefer to stay here and play football. We are a big team, with a big stadium and great fans. For me, my head is 100 per cent Newcastle."
