Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed William Gallas is on the brink of joining the club.

Redknapp last week confirmed his interest in signing the 33-year-old France defender, who is a free agent after he failed to agree a new contract with north London rivals Arsenal.

And he revealed this morning that he expects to complete the swoop soon.

"He's a no-brainer on a free transfer," said Redknapp.

With Jonathan Woodgate still out with a long-term groin injury and captain Ledley King plagued by knee problems that have the potential to limit his playing time, Redknapp has been keen to bolster his defensive resources.

Redknapp confirmed the player will undergo a medical this afternoon and will sign a one-year deal, with an option to extend.

The former Chelsea centre-back's wage demands - reportedly £80,000 per week - were thought to have been behind his departure from the Emirates Stadium.

But Redknapp was not put off by Gallas's requirements.

He said: "He's never asked for big money here.

"The chairman's agreed a one-year contract with him and the wages are more than reasonable."
