Of all the transfer sagas of recent summers, David De Gea and Manchester United's never-ending story has surely been the dullest.

Primarily because although perhaps the most important position in the team, goalkeeper is undoubtedly one of the least glamorous, but also because there is absolutely no sense whatsoever that United will not manage to find a decent replacement for De Gea should he, as expected, leave the club.

Two of the men rumoured to be in the frame to cover the loss of De Gea are Tottenham's Hugo Lloris and Ajax's Jasper Cillessen.

Here we compare the two players:

Age

Lloris: 28

Cillessen: 26

International Caps

Lloris: 67

Cillessen: 23

Honours

Lloris: Coupe de France (2011/2012), Super Cup Winner (2012/2013)

Cillessen: 3x Eredivisie (2013/2014, 2012/2013, 2011/2012), Super Cup (2013/2014)

How did they compare in 2014/15?

Games played

Lloris: 35

Cillessen: 32

Clean sheets

Lloris: 8

Cillessen: 12

Goals conceded

Lloris: 48

Cillessen: 26

Saves

Lloris: 89

Cillessen: 63

Saves per goal

Lloris: 1.93

Cillessen: 2.52

Verdict?

While Cillessen may appear to have better stats and has won more honours, Lloris has more experience as well as knowledge of the Premier League and his stats have suffered from not playing for one of the league's top teams. Lloris looks to be the better bet.
