Jose Mourinho has signed a contract to become Manchester United manager, according to reports, though the Old Trafford club is yet to officially announce his appointment.

The 53-year-old Portuguese coach will replace Louis van Gaal, who was sacked on Sunday following victory in the FA Cup final over Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sports News, but the official confirmation is expected on Friday.

Mourinho, who has long coveted the Old Trafford job, has been out of work since being dismissed by Chelsea last December.

The former Internazionale and Real Madrid manager will sign a three-year contract, worth £10million-a-year, following talks between his representatives and the club's hierarchy this week.

Both parties agreed personal terms on Tuesday, though complexities surrounding Mourinho's commercial commitments are believed to have caused a slight delay.

Mourinho's first game in charge will be against Borussia Dortmund in Shanghai on July 22 on the first leg of two game tour of China.

Mourinho will sit in the Old Trafford home dug-out for the first time on June 5 when he takes charge of an England XI in a charity game for Unicef against a Rest of the World XI.
