Jurgen Klopp favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool if he's sacked

Departing Borussia Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp has been installed as the bookies' favourite to replace Brendan Rodgers should he be sacked by Liverpool.

In their final game of the season, Liverpool were thrashed 6-1 by Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium, suffering their worst defeat in 52 years.

It was the first-time they had conceded five or more goals since 1992.

The German manager, who announced last month that he would quit Dortmund after leading them to two Bundesliga titles in six years, os now as short as 5/4 with some bookies.

Brendan Rodgers has been in charge at Liverpool Since 1 June 2012, taking charge of 155 matches.

He has gone trophyless in his three seasons, although Liverpool were surprise title challengers last season, eventually finishing second.

This year has been poor however, with the club failing to qualify for the Champions League after some poor summer transfer business and Liverpool losing to struggling Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final.

Speaking after the humiliating defeat, Rodgers said he takes "full responsibility" for the loss and would go if the owners want him to.

"The supporters deserve an apology for that. We were too easily beaten. We have to be better than that," he said.

"The supporters have every right to be angry. We can have no complaints all of us. That was awful first half.

"I take full responsibility as manager. There is an awful lot of work to do. We finished sixth and that is where we deserve to finish.

"If the owners want me to go, I go. it is as simple as that. But i still feel I have a lot to offer here. Performances like today don't help you.

"I want to be here. There are a number of key elements of the performance that didn't surprise me. We will address those in the summer."
