Kenny Dalglish excited by 'frightening' Liverpool attack

Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish is already looking forward to the time when he can field new signings Andy Carroll and Luis Suarez alongside Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles in a "frightening" attacking line-up.

Suarez, Monday's £22.8million signing from Ajax, scored on his debut after coming off the bench to score the second in the 2-0 victory over Stoke last night.

Meireles scored the first, Gerrard was heavily involved in most things but Carroll, introduced to the crowd before kick-off, had to watch from the stands as he is still a month away from recovering from a thigh injury.

Carroll, the club's £35million record signing, and Suarez will be officially unveiled at a press conference at Anfield tomorrow morning.

"You are starting to frighten some of the opposition," said Dalglish when asked about the prospect of being able to play the quartet together.

"They are four fantastic players. Andy is going to be a few weeks away from being fit but we bought him for five and a half years so a few weeks out of that won't do us any harm.

"Those four are really good footballers and they will complement each other very well."

Suarez, understandably, grabbed the headlines after scoring in front of the Kop - previously the domain of Fernando Torres before his £50million move to Chelsea.

That was after Meireles had put Liverpool ahead just after half-time with his third goal in four matches.

"I am delighted for him (Suarez) - and for Raul for getting the first goal," said Dalglish.

"He had not even had the opportunity to train with us because of administrative stuff which had to be sorted out.

"When he starts training with the lads I think we might see an improvement."

Suarez had not played since December 8 because of the combination of the winter break in Holland and a seven-match suspension for biting a player.

Dalglish held him back for 62 minutes but with the game starting to open up he gave the Uruguay international his chance and he seized his moment.

"It is a great start to score on your debut and he worked hard and him and Dirk Kuyt linked up well a couple of times," the Scot added.

"We will not put any timescale on him. He will be fit when he is ready but he's not bad as he is."

Dalglish also paid tribute to his team, reorganised in a 3-4-2-1 formation to combat Stoke's approach, for their third successive clean sheet.

"What was every bit as important was the defenders did their job to ensure we could go and win it and I thought they were superb," he said.

Stoke boss Tony Pulis had no complaints.

"We did okay for the first half but to concede just after half-time knocked us," he said.

"Up until the second goal I thought we were in the game but Liverpool took their chances well."
