Leicester City fans face £15,000 ticket prices for final home match after touts hike illegal resale fees online
Tickets to Leicester's final game of the season against Everton sold out in under 90 minutes, but some immediately appeared online for more than £3,000 each
Leicester City fans hoping to attend the final Premier League home match of the season, where they could celebrate an unprecedented title triumph, face paying up to £15,000 for a pair of tickets after touts ramped up the prices for the game with Everton.
The Foxes sit top of the Premier League table and hold a seven-point lead over Tottenham, and could secure the title as early as their trip to Manchester United on 1 May should results go their way.
Should Claudio Ranieri’s side go on to seal what would be the most incredible title success in the Premier League era, a party atmosphere will be in full flow at the King Power Stadium on 7 May for the final home game of the season against Everton.
But ticket re-sale websites are threatening to ruin the feel-good factor at Leicester by charging astronomical fees to attend the game, with the original allocation of tickets selling out in under 90 minutes on Monday.
Individual tickets were selling for more than £3,000 within minutes of the sell-out, while a pair of tickets were found to cost as much as five times that amount on certain websites.
A Leicester spokesman confirmed that the club would actively seek out anyone who tried to sell on tickets for the game given it is a criminal offence to re-sell football tickets in the United Kingdom, and called on fans to report any examples of ticket touting to the club.
"The unauthorised sale of football tickets is a criminal offence under UK law,” said the spokesman. “Leicester City Football Club will take action against any ticket touting or any attempt to resell tickets for above their face value.
"We encourage all supporters to report any such activity to the Club."
