English champions Leicester City take on their Spanish counterparts Barcelona on Wednesday night in Stockholm as Claudio Ranieri’s men prepare for one of the most intriguing title defences of recent times.

Following a 6-5 penalties victory against Celtic last month, after Riyad Mahrez scored a superb opener in a 1-1 draw last month, Leicester suffered a heavy defeat by Paris-Saint Germain at the weekend in Los Angeles.

With the Community Shield against Manchester United on the horizon, this Sunday at Wembley, the Foxes will first test themselves against Lionel Messi, Neymar, Luis Suarez et al at the Friends Arena in Sweden.

Speaking shortly after the 4-0 reverse to PSG in the United States on Saturday evening, Ranieri was optimistic and turned an eye to the future. “I think it’s a good experience for us,” he insisted.

“PSG is a good team that is building to win the Champions League. They have a big squad with big players and for our players it was a good experience.

“Maybe if we had scored a goal when we had the chance at the start of the second half, maybe we can change something, but it was a good, good experience. A bad result, but I think we can improve from this defeat.”

Barca, meanwhile, go into the International Champions Cup clash on the back of a 3-1 win against Celtic in Dublin, courtesy of an own goal by Efe Ambrose and strikes by Arda Turan and Munir El Haddidi.

It’s likely to be a fascinating clash of two titans of last season as both prepare for their respective Champions League campaigns in the coming months. As both won their Leagues last time around, Leicester and Barcelona will dodge each other in the group stage.
