Manchester United star Angel Di Maria says Lionel Messi and Jose Mourinho would be able to work together, if the Argentina star ever left Barcelona.

Messi, 27, has continually been linked with a move away from La Liga in recent months, with Chelsea mooted as a possible destination.

Di Maria expects his Argentina team-mate to stay put with the Catalan giants, but, having worked with Mourinho while at Real Madrid, says the superstar would be a good fit under the Portuguese boss.

"In principle [they would work well together, I don’t think Leo wants to leave Barcelona," said the British record signing.

"It’s hard to walk away from a club that’s given you everything, where you effectively grew up.

"But no I don’t think he’d have any problem working with Mourinho."

After a fantastic start at Old Trafford, Di Maria has struggled in recent weeks, with United boss Louis van Gaal coming under fire for not using the £59.7million signing properly.

The 26-year-old said he was enjoying life since moving to England - although he is struggling to learn the language and doesn't like the weather.

"'The weather is the only thing [I don't like]… it doesn’t help a lot. But I’m very content here," he added.

"The people have a lot of affection for me, which is the most important thing. It’s what I value most, and I have that here."

On his learning the language, he said: "It’s very bad. [I’ve learned] very little and only understand a small bit. That said, I’m trying to learn it bit by bit and I’m taking classes. Hopefully I’ll pick it up quickly."
