Liverpool FC: A look back at 2018

Liverpool have been left to sweat on the fitness of Virgil van Dijk after their dramatic 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.

Van Dijk appeared to suffer an ankle injury after colliding with Moussa Sissoko late on at Anfield, having successfully defended a two-on-one counter-attack.

The 27-year-old played on as a 90th-minute Toby Alderweireld own goal granted Liverpool a vital three points in their title challenge.

Jurgen Klopp could not offer a concrete update on Van Dijk's fitness in his post-match press conference but was hopeful that the problem was not serious.

“We have to see," Klopp said. "I asked him and I think it was in the counter-attack situation when Sissoko hit him.

"I don’t know if he twisted it or it is a knock.

“He was walking to the interviews with a big ice pack. I hope it’s nothing serious but I don’t know yet.”

Van Dijk has been an ever-present for Liverpool in the Premier League this season, starting all of their 32 games thus far.

Klopp's side return to action on Friday night, travelling to St Mary's to play Van Dijk's former club Southampton.
