Coronavirus: How has sport been affected?

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has said the pain of losing three finals motivated Jurgen Klopp’s team to become the dominant force they are today.

Henderson was a member of the Liverpool sides that lost to Sevilla and Manchester City in the 2016 Europa League and League Cup finals respectively, in Jurgen Klopp’s first season at the club.

He meanwhile captained Liverpool in the 2017/18 Champions League finals, which the Reds lost 3-1 to Real Madrid.

But Liverpool bounced back the season after, beating Tottenham Hotspur to win the Champions League final in Madrid. And this season they have won the Club World Cup and stand on the verge of the Premier League title.

Henderson told Liverpool’s official website: “’That was a big factor.

“All of those things you sort of learn from and it gives you even more hunger to put things right and improve.

“Every time we have faced that adversity we have bounced back in a really good way.

“It was just a case of continuing to do that and we knew the time would come where we’d manage to win something. Thankfully it came last year.”
