Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson bemoans penalty decision for Liverpool after defeat

Jurgen Klopp isn’t completely satisfied with Liverpool’s winning start to the season and has promised that his team “should get better” in the months ahead.

The Reds have opened the current campaign with back-to-back wins against West Ham United and Crystal Palace respectively.

Klopp’s men put in a seamless display against the Hammers on the opening weekend of the season before showcasing their resilience to grind down the Eagles at Selhurst Park on Monday night.

Having secured maximum points from their opening games, Klopp believes this sort of form is to be expected of the team and is confident that there is more to come from his men.

“We should expect [form] like that from us,” he said ahead of Liverpool’s match with Brighton on Saturday. “People expect that from us but we should at least expect to perform how we have been. If that’s the best football we can play that’s pretty poor. I’m sure we can improve and we need to be ready for all the games in different competitions.”

Klopp also suggested that Liverpool’s defence would continue to improve, having yet to concede so far this season.

“You are all men and women who when we concede goals talk about the defence and goalkeeper but defending is a team thing,” he said.

“We did well for a long period defending, not just this season. We are an offensive orientated team based on good organisation.

“It’s never that we don’t talk about things but every game 60 or 70 per cent of talking is about the defensive things we will do. It needs to stay like this. We work together the whole week. It should get better, that’s the truth.

“Twice a clean sheet, that’s good at this stage. We have to keep going.”
