Virgil van Dijk has told fans there’s more to come after settling into life at Liverpool following his move from Southampton.

The Dutchman joined Liverpool in January for a record £75m to make him the most expensive defender in the Premier League.

So far the 26-year-old has made 10 appearances under manager Jurgen Klopp, helping Liverpool to keep four clean sheets as they approach the business end of the season.

When asked whether it had been easier than expected to adjust to life at his new club, Van Dijk said: “I don’t know. Obviously you come here with expectations.

“I’m getting better and better and the understanding with all the players is getting much better.”

Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman also recently suggested the defender could be in line to captain his country but Van Dijk insisted he was only focused on the matches at hand, against England and Portugal.

“I’m just playing my game and trying to help my team,” he added.

After the conclusion of the international break in two weeks’ time, attention will turn to Liverpool’s Champions League quarter-final tie against Manchester City.

“Everybody knows that anyone we get is going to be very hard. Manchester City is a very good team,” Van Dijk said.

“They are very hard to play against and we need to be 100 percent or even better to beat them over two games.”
