Jurgen Klopp refuses to answer question from Sun journalist

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp refused to answer a question from a journalist because they work for The Sun newspaper following his side’s victory against Barcelona.

The German was speaking after watching Liverpool defeat the Spanish champions in a pre-season friendly at Wembley, courtesy of goals from Sadio Mane, Divock Origi, Marko Grujic and an own goal by former Anfield midfielder Javier Mascherano.

But Klopp’s refusal to answer a question from the journalist in question created a tense atmosphere during his media briefing at full-time. It is not known if the 49-year-old’s decision is in relation to the tabloid’s coverage of the Hillsborough disaster in 1989.

Former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp appeared to suggest not, saying: “I don't talk with The Sun anymore. I don't speak with The Sun anymore. You can listen.

“It's not because I'm with Liverpool now. It's because of a few things that will happen in the next few days or few weeks, I don't know.

“It's not personal. You're still working for The Sun, right? That's it. You can listen and you can write what you want.”

Klopp has been manager of Liverpool since last October and, until now, has not shown any hesitency in answering questions from journalists writing for The Sun, despite the bad reputation that the tabloid has in Liverpool due to its coverage of the Hillsborough disaster.
