Jürgen Klopp has reacted to Kyle Walker’s tweet mocking Liverpool by claiming he has never celebrated a rival dropping points.

Walker posted a tweet on Thursday afternoon which poked fun at Liverpool’s failure to move seven points clear at the top of the Premier League table.

Klopp’s league leaders drew 1-1 with Leicester City at Anfield on Wednesday night, a day after title rivals Manchester City suffered a surprise defeat to Newcastle United.

Walker posted a picture of Harry Maguire, scorer of Leicester’s equaliser, talking to his partner Fern Hawkins with the caption: “So basically they thought they were gonna go 7 points ahead...”

The post was later deleted. Pep Guardiola, the City manager, said on Friday that he has no issue with Walker’s use of social media.

Klopp was unaware of the post when asked about it at his Friday pre-match press conference but was surprised by it.

“I cannot help that,” he said. ”I am not sure what that says about us, it says something more about the other person.

“I never celebrated that another team dropped points or lost a game. For me that’s not allowed.

“That’s how I understand sports. You have to do your own things, to work out and show your best performance. I don’t understand it.

“For supporters it is a little bit different, for people involved I don’t understand. But it is nothing to criticise because I don’t understand so how can I criticise it.

“There will always be a bunch of people who hope you win and another bunch who hope you will lose.

“You have to ignore both in your preparation, and in the end hopefully you celebrate with the ones who want you to win something.”
