Top of the table Arsenal travel to Anfield on Wednesday night to face a Liverpool side who have been plagued with injuries in recent weeks.

Arsene Wenger’s side have only suffered one defeat in seven league games and will be looking to extend that impressive run.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been forced to rotate his squad regularly due to the large number of injuries his players have sustained during this festive period, which will explain the inconsistencies in his side’s results.

Team news

Liverpool as mentioned, have the lengthiest injury list in the Premier League by some distance. Jon Flanagan, Jordan Rossiter, Divock Origi, Dejan Lovren, Philippe Coutinho, Joe Gomez, Danny Ings, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Sturridge are all sidelined for the game. Although Lovren and Sturridge will be looking at being fit in time for the game against Manchester United at the weekend.

However, Mamadou Sakho and Kolo Toure are expected to be fit to form an experienced central pairing in defence.

Jordan Ibe and Jordan Henderson both look set to return after overcoming their injuries that kept them out of the draw with Exeter in the FA cup.

New signing Stephen Caulker could also feature after joining on loan for the rest of the season from championship side QPR.

Arsenal still remain without a number of key players but their injury list is nowhere near as big compared to Liverpool’s.

Danny Welbeck, Santi Cazorla, Jack Wilshire, Francis Coquelin, Tomas Rosicky are all unavailable with long term injuries.

David Ospina faces a late fitness test whilst Arsene Wenger has admitted that Wednesday’s game may have come too soon for Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez.

Influential German pair Mesut Ozil and Per Mertesacker and Frenchman Mathieu Flamini are expected to be fit after sitting out the 3-1 FA cup win over Sunderland at the weekend.

Joel Campbell is pushing for a start after an impressive performance in the FA cup win.
