Liverpool have ended their long wait for a top-flight title by lifting their first championship since 1990.

Manchester City needed a victory at Chelsea to keep the title race mathematically alive through to next Thursday’s tie with Liverpool, but goals from Christian Pulisic and Willian proved enough to deal Pep Guardiola’s side a pivotal defeat that handed the Premier League title to Jurgen Klopp’s men.

Wild celebrations were witnessed across Liverpool as fans embraced their first title in three decades, while the players were able to enjoy the success together at their team hotel.

Having seen the likes of Manchester United, Blackburn Rovers, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Leicester City all lift the title since the club’s last success, Liverpool finally managed to claim title No 19, having returned to the top of the English football tree following last season’s near-miss.

Here, we take a look at some of the things which happened in the intervening period.

- All of Liverpool’s current squad – with the exception of James Milner, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren, and Adrian – were born.

- Sir Alex Ferguson won 13 league titles as Manchester United manager, also securing two Champions Leagues, five FA Cups, four League Cups and the European Cup Winners’ Cup.

- Manchester City were relegated from the Premier League (1996), relegated to third tier (1998), promoted back to the second tier (1999), promoted back to the Premier League (2000), relegated again (2001), promoted once more (2002) and won the Premier League four times (2012, 2014, 2018 and 2019).

- Portsmouth were promoted to the Premier League (2003), relegated to League Two (2013) and promoted back to League One (2017).

- Leicester, 5000/1 shots, won the Premier League for the first time in 2016.

- Crystal Palace have had 34 managers.

- Six clubs have won the Premier League: Manchester United (13), Chelsea (five), Manchester City (four), Arsenal (three), Blackburn and Leicester (both one)

- A total of 49 different teams have played in the Premier League.
