Gabriel Jesus surprised by how well he has adapted to Premier League football

Manchester City's 19-year-old Brazilian striker, a £27m signing from Palmeiras, marked a sparkling full league debut with a goal in the 4-0 win at West Ham

Gabriel Jesus admits even he is surprised at how quickly he has adapted to the Premier League.

Manchester City's 19-year-old Brazilian striker, a £27m signing from Palmeiras, marked a sparkling full league debut with a goal in the 4-0 win at West Ham.

Jesus formed part of a youthful three-pronged attack with Leroy Sane and Raheem Sterling at the London Stadium, and the exciting trio simply tore the Hammers apart.

"I'm very happy for the goal, very happy for the performance and especially for the win," Jesus told City TV.

"This is the spirit I think we have to have and if we keep that spirit we will be able to achieve our goals. It wasn't an easy Premier League game and we are all very happy.

"The reception from the club has been great, my team-mates are helping a lot and the process of adaptation is going great.

"I honestly thought it would be more difficult but thanks to my family, my friends and my team-mates it's going really well.

"I always said I came here to help but I have also been helped. We understand each other very well, Sterling, Leroy and the rest of my team-mates.

"We get along very well on the pitch and that is making my game easier."

Jesus played the one-two which set up Kevin De Bruyne for the opener and David Silva tapped in number two from Sane's cross.

The Brazilian tucked in the third after he was teed up by Sterling and Yaya Toure completed the scoring with a second-half penalty.

Hammers winger Michail Antonio is simply glad to see the back of City.

In three meetings with Pep Guardiola's men this season, West Ham have conceded 12 goals with Wednesday's defeat coming just over three weeks after a 5-0 FA Cup drubbing.

"That result is painful and it's really hurting us, but we have another game in three days and we just need to make sure we put things right against Southampton on Saturday," said Antonio.

"It's definitely hard to take but you just have to hand it to them, they're a quality team and they showed that they are lethal on the counter attack.

"We made a couple of mistakes but we just have to learn from it and pick ourselves up. Luckily we don't have to play them again this season."
