Chelsea have reportedly had a bid of £53m for Sergio Aguero turned down by Atletico Madrid.

Chelsea have long maintained an interest in the Argentine international and are desperate to wrap up a deal for the striker in January.

With a potential transfer ban being imposed on Carlo Ancelotti's side in the summer, Chelsea are eager to bolster their squad sooner rather than later.

Yet Aguero wants to see out the La Liga season and help his struggling side, whom he joined as a 17-year-old, move up the table.

It has also been reported by Madrid newspaper AS that Manchester City have been making enquiries for the 21-year-old, who earlier this week made it clear he sees his long-term future away from Atletico Madrid.
