Manchester City are reportedly leading the race to sign Ángel Di María from Benfica during the January transfer window.
A report in today's Telegraph newspaper suggests that his club are eager to move the Argentinean winger on in the upcoming window before a lower buy-out clause kicks in at the end of the season.
Chelsea had also been monitoring the situation but have baulked at the asking price of £36m, leaving City as the main contenders for his signature.
Manchester United are also showing signs of interest in the 21-year-old, who has three caps for his country.
