Both sides will be hoping to make it back-to-back wins in the league after Pep Guardiola Manchester City eased past Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 while Everton scraped past Stoke 1-0 on the opening weekend.

Ronald Koeman’s side could feel the effects from their 2-0 win over Hajduk Split in the Europa League on Thursday in a game marred by crowd trouble.

Everton smashed their transfer record last week with the £45m capture of Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson from Swansea and he could make his debut tonight.

The game will come too soon for Guardiola’s new £52m left back Benjamin Mendy but the City boss will be hoping to give some minutes to Ilkay Gundogan who has been out injured for eight months with a knee injury.

City will be out for revenge after The Toffees hammered Guardiola’s side 4-0 in January at Goodison Park.

What time does it start?

Manchester City vs Everton kicks off on Monday 21 August, at 20:00 BST.

Where can I watch it?

Coverage will start from 19:00 on the Sky Sports Premier League channel.

It’s a big game for...

Wayne Rooney: The former Manchester United forward would love to score against his old side’s rivals and kick on from his goal against Stoke on his return to Goodison Park. The 31-year-old is likely to still have his doubters and a goal against Guardiola’s side might silence a few more critics. Rooney is also one goal away from his 200th Premier League goal - second only to Alan Shearer (260).

Best stat...

Everton are looking to become the first team Guardiola has failed to beat in any of his first three matches. The City boss had beaten every club he had faced in league competition within his first two meetings against them before last campaign.

Remember when...

This game was the last time Wayne Rooney played an away game for Everton in the Premier League and coincidentally it was a 5-1 defeat to Manchester City at The Etihad. The former Manchester United striker set up Kevin Campbell for The Toffees’ only goal that day.

Player to watch...

Gylfi Sigurdsson: The former Swansea midfielder will be hoping to make an early impression to the Everton faithful after his club-record move. The Icelandic midfielder assisted the third-highest amount in the league last season with 13.
