Manchester City vs Liverpool: Player ratings as Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane end Reds’ unbeaten run
Manchester City clawed Liverpool's Premier League lead back to four points as they triumphed 2-1 in a thrilling game at the Etihad and ended the Reds’ unbeaten run this season.
Sergio Aguero gave Pep Guardiola's side a deserved lead after 40 minutes with a superb strike from a tight angle.
However, Liverpool grew into the game again after Fabinho's introduction early in the second half and Roberto Firmino nodded home a fine equaliser after 64 minutes.
But with 18 minutes to play, Leroy Sane broke free and his low shot skidded across the face of goal before bouncing in off the post.
Earlier on in the game City narrowly escaped when John Stones clearance hit Ederson's flailing hand and came just 11 millimetres from cross the goalline before being cleared away, while Vincent Kompany was fortunate to escape a red card for a reckless slide tackle on Mohamed Salah.
