Manchester United have no new injury concerns ahead of this weekend’s derby with Manchester City at Old Trafford.

Louis van Gaal confirmed that all those who featured in Wednesday night’s 1-1 Champions League draw with CSKA Moscow returned from the trip safely and will be fit to play on Sunday.

Earlier this week, the Dutch coach voiced his concerns that the lengthy trip to the Russian capital could interfere with his side’s preparations for the derby and hand an advantage to City.

In his pre-match press conference on Friday however, Van Gaal felt the extra air miles would not have an adverse effect and said: “I think we shall recover from the Moscow trip. The talk of the town is this match.”

United will still be without winger and make-shift full-back Ashley Young. The 30-year-old has recovered from a calf injury and returned to training but will not be ready for the derby.

Luke Shaw is a long-term absentee with the horrific double leg fracture he suffered against PSV Eindhoven in United’s opening Champions League game.

Paddy McNair is also still unavailable for selection after rupturing his liver while on duty with Northern Ireland in Helsinki, Finland during the international break.

On the club’s injury situation, Van Gaal said: “It’s pretty good, because only Luke Shaw and Paddy McNair are long-term injuries.”

“Ashley Young has had three weeks out of training sessions so cannot play against City.

“It’s always better that a manager can select from a lot of players,” he continued. “There have been times when I could not select from many, like last year, but this year is going much better.”

The 170th Manchester derby will kick off at 2.05pm on Sunday.
