Man Utd vs Liverpool: Roy Keane ‘disgusted’ by players ‘hugging and kissing’ in tunnel

The former United captain said the players should have been preparing 'to go into war' and was supported by Jose Mourinho

Roy Keane claimed he was “disgusted” by Manchester United and Liverpool‘s players “hugging and kissing” in the tunnel prior to Sunday’s 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

Ahead of the match, Andreas Pereira and Fred were seen chatting to fellow Brazilian Roberto Firmino, incensing the former United captain who said they should have been preparing “to go into war”.

“I’m disgusted with the players. You’re going to war, they’re hugging and kissing,” Keane said on Sky Sports.

“Don’t even look at the opposition. You’re going into battle against them. The game hasn’t changed that much, the players have changed. You’re going to war against these players and they’re hugging each other.

“Chat to them after the game, or don’t even chat to them after the game.”

Former United manager Jose Mourinho gave Keane his backing, insisting that the players “should breathe” a game built on such vicious rivalry.

“What the game means for the fans. In the dressing room you know that, you feel that and you breathe that,” Mourinho said.

“The difference between losing at home or not to lose at home against the biggest rival makes a huge difference.”

United took the lead through Marcus Rashford in the first half, after VAR agreed with Martin Atkinson’s on-pitch decision that Victor Lindelof had not fouled Divock Origi in the build-up.

However, Adam Lallana’s late equaliser denied United a precious victory and saw Jurgen Klopp’s side maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season.

“Disappointed on behalf of the players and the fans for the effort they put in,” Solskjaer said.

“They deserved more than the one point I felt, and it feels worse because it was towards the end of the game.

“Yes, they put us under pressure towards the end but I don’t think they created too many chances and we soaked the pressure up well. One lack of concentration and it’s a goal. That’s the level we are at.”
