Luke Shaw: I want to play for former boss Mauricio Pochettino again

Luke Shaw has admitted he wants to work under the management of former boss Mauricio Pochettino once again.

The left-back starred under Pochettino during their time together at Southampton before the latter joined Tottenham in May 2014 while the former went on to sign for Manchester United that summer.

But Shaw’s spell at Old Trafford has been marked by limited success and repeated injuries which have hindered the 22-year-old’s development.

United manager Jose Mourinho has notably criticised the defender for his attitude and ability, with reports suggesting the pair are no longer on speaking terms.

Shaw has more recently been linked with a move to north London, and the player himself has hinted that he would be open to a reunion with his former manager.

Writing in the epilogue of ‘Guillem Balague’s Brave New World: Inside Pochettino’s Spurs,’ he said that the Argentine “made me feel that I was the best”.

"I think with Southampton he achieved the impossible,” he said. “We were one of the best footballing teams in the league… I do hope that I can play for him again one day. And I think he really wants me to play under him again.

"He used to call me his son, that's how good our relationship was. I've had lots of ups and downs, but when I was with Pochettino it was only ever up, up, up.

"He made me feel that I was the best. He'd show me clips of my games and say, 'You should do this better'. Not in a horrible way. Not I could have done better, but I should have done better, because he knows I can be better."

Shaw’s United take on Pochettino and his Tottenham side this Saturday, though the defender is unlikely to feature in the Premier League clash.
