Manchester United mocked by police on Twitter following loss to Bournemouth

Manchester United's recent form has been so 'criminal' that the police have got involved... if only to mock Louis van Gaal's side.

Following their exit from the Champions League in midweek, Louis van Gaal's side were deservedly beaten by newly-promoted Bournemouth on Saturday.

With Manchester United fans already struggling to contain their frustration, they now also have to contend with Great Manchester Police revelling in the club's misfortune on Twitter.

A post by officers from the Middleton division titled "Missing report" featured a picture of people, with Manchester United crests superimposed on them, with their heads buried in the sand. The tweet added: “The Man Utd defensive squad has gone missing. We’ve located them on Bournemouth beach.”

The tweet has since been deleted, with @GMPMiddleton explaining that they were concerned the image used may have had a "sinister origin" they "knew nothing about", however they have since said they do not beleive there was anything wrong with the image.

The post had a mixed reaction before it was removed.

Manchester United will return to action next Saturday when they host Norwich at Old Trafford.
