Luke Shaw confident Manchester United’s new signings will rejuvenate atmosphere after dire start

Manchester United full-back Luke Shaw believes the club’s new signings will rejuvenate the atmosphere at Old Trafford and dismissed concerns that his place in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is under threat after the arrival of Alex Telles from Porto. 

United have endured a miserable start to the season, suffering defeat in their opening fixture against Crystal Palace before a harrowing 6-1 thrashing by Tottenham prior to the international break. 

United responded by making four signings on deadline day, with free agent Edinson Cavani, Telles, and teenagers Facundo Pellistri and Amad Traore all joining the club - Traore will not officially join up with Solskjaer’s side until January, though. 

Shaw hopes the new signings will have a similar impact to Bruno Fernandes’ transformative arrival last January, which sparked a brilliant run of form.

“We've got a few new arrivals in and that can maybe boost the morale of the squad and bring something different,” he told the club's official website.

“Fresh faces are sometimes a good thing. Like we saw with Bruno, it can change completely the mood of a squad.”

Shaw has been ever-present for United so far this season, however, the arrival of Telles is likely to hamper his chances of first-team football. But he insisted that the added competition will be healthy for the squad.

“Competition for any team is a must," he added. ”There is competition for every single spot and you've got to be ready for it, work hard and give the manager a decision harder than what he's had to make before.

“Competition is very healthy for the squad, it'll push everyone even more because everyone wants to play.”
