Manchester United news: Zlatan Ibrahimovic apologises to fans after picking up Arsenal suspension

The Swedish striker will miss the forthcoming match against the Gunners after collecting his fifth booking of the season

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has apologised to Manchester United supporters after picking up a suspension that will rule him out of an upcoming match against Arsenal.

The 35-year-old striker collected his fifth booking of the season so far in Sunday’s 3-1 Premier League win at Swansea City after a clash with Leroy Fer.

Ibrahimovic will now be unavailable for selection when Arsène Wenger’s side visit Old Trafford following the November international break.

“In England, the football is hard, it's physical,” he told MUTV. “I just have to accept it. I've got to be professional. I'm sorry I am suspended for the next game.

“I wish I wasn't as it's a game I really wanted to play in. But I have trust in my team-mates and the team and I know they can do fine also without me.”

The Swedish striker ended a six-game goal drought by bagging a brace at the Liberty Stadium and his performance drew praise from Jose Mourinho, the United manager.

“I used to say that a striker who doesn’t score goals and does nothing else is one player less,” Mourinho said. "But a striker that doesn’t score goals but does everything else is a very important player for the team.

“He wasn’t scoring goals but he was doing everything else. He was working defensively, in the build-up and the second phase of the attack.

“He was giving assists and contributing towards the goalkeeper that was playing against us always being the man of the match.

“He was doing so many things that I wasn’t worried but today we needed goals and he got them.”
