It's rare this season that Manchester United go a game without Zlatan Ibrahimovic finding the back of the net.

The 35-year-old has 20 goals since joining the club last summer but his name was conspicuously absent from the scoresheet in United's 2-0 win over Watford on Saturday.

He admitted after the game that his failure to score left him frustrated.

“It could have been a few more than 2-0, I wish I could have scored. I had one or two good chances and I should have scored,” he told the Manchester Evening News.

“In the games you don’t have a lot of opportunities and you should take care of them when you get them. That’s why I’m a little bit disappointed in myself.

“But I felt good in the game. I got a lot of balls, tried to create and give stability to the team. The only thing I missed was the goal.”

Nevertheless, the Swedish forward believed something he did during that game helped his side as much as a goal would have.

Some United fans on social media were frustrated by seeing Ibrahimovic drop into a deeper position against the Hornets, at times occupying the spaces traditionally occupied by a midfielder.

But the forward explained that this was a deliberate ploy, allowing his teammates - Anthony Martial, Juan Mata and Henrikh Mkhitaryan - to bomb on and create chances of their own.

"I tried to give them options to play around me, to give the guys more confidence to do that,” he added.

It certainly seemed to work. First, Mata opened the scoring from Martial's assist and then Martial doubled the lead after a neat link-up with that man Ibrahimovic.
