Dean Henderson has ‘proved’ he will be Manchester United’s No 1 says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer
The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says Dean Henderson has already “proved” that he will be Manchester United and England’s No 1 one day.
The 23-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sheffield United, first helping the Blades earn promotion back to the Premier League before starring on their charge towards an unlikely European place.
Henderson’s future beyond the end of this season – where he is expected to stay at Bramall Lane – remains up in the air.
But Solskjaer believes he has done more than enough to show that he has what it takes to make the step up as and when the club ask him to.
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically,” said Solskjaer.
“We’re looking at that in terms of where he’s going to be next season, but as yet that has not been decided.
“This season has proved a great experience for him, he’s done himself some favours with his performances, and proved he will be England’s No 1 and Man United’s No 1 at some point.”
David de Gea remains the first choice at Old Trafford and only recently signed a new four-year deal to put to bed any questions over his immediate future.
But Solskjaer is impressed with the strides Henderson has taken in recent years to put pressure on his starting goalkeeper.
“It’s not my job to keep the players happy or in the team or out of it,” he added. “Part of it is their responsibility of performing and doing well.
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and developed fantastically – and still is.”
