Paul Pogba has spoken out in support of the victims of slavery in Libya and called for their plight to come to an end.

An investigation by CNN last week revealed the troubling extent to which migrants are being auctioned into slavery in the north African country.

The Manchester United midfielder returned to action on Saturday against Newcastle following two months on the sidelines and played a key role in the 4-1 victory at Old Trafford.

After scoring United's third goal Pogba celebrated by raising his arms together with his wrists crossed.

"While very happy to be back, my prayers go to those suffering slavery in #Libya," he tweeted. "May Allah be by your side and may this cruelty come to an end!"

United's next match is in Basel on Wednesday as they look to secure the top position in their Champions League group, but Jose Mourinho has hinted Pogba could be rested for the tie.

"He's a player we need to protect," the United manager said on Saturday.
