Manchester United's bonus system revealed following Bebe contract leak

The details, which were released alongside the contractual agreements for former player Bebe, show that a total of £2.25million was paid out to the first-team squad in the 2009/10 season

Documents released by website Football Leaks appear to show how much Manchester United was prepared to pay its players in bonuses during the 2009/10 and 2010/11 seasons.

The details, which were released alongside the contractual agreements for former player Bebe, show that a total of £2.25million was paid out to the first-team squad that season, following their second-place Premier League finish, League Cup win and quarter-final exit from the Champions League.

The maximum potential pay-out, activated by the achievement of an unlikely quadruple across all major competitions, was £9.25million. Success in the Champions League alone was worth £5.25million to the squad.

The leaked documents also reveal that Bebe, who was signed prior to the 2010/11 season, was paid £900,000-a-year until he moved to Benfica for £2.3million in 2014.

If released information is genuine, the 25-year-old striker who is currently on loan at Rayo Vallecano will have cost United £165,000 for each of the 75 minutes he played while with the Old Trafford club.

In the 2010/11 season, United were crowned Premier League champions and reached the Champions League final, losing 3-1 to Barcelona at Wembley. According to the documents released by Football Leaks, £7.75million would have subsequently been paid out to the playing squad in bonuses.

Last month, the website released documents purporting to show the contractual arrangements for the club’s signing on Anthony Martial last summer.
