Manchester United's Memphis Depay can become best winger in the world, says Andrei Kanchelskis
Former Old Trafford hero says Dutchman will blossom despite a slow start under Louis van Gaal
Manchester United’s Memphis Depay has the potential to become the best winger in the world, according to Andrei Kanchelskis.
Depay, 21, has struggled to hold down a place in Louis van Gaal’s first team since he moved to Old Trafford from PSV for £25m last summer.
But Kanchelskis, who won two Premier League titles with Manchester United during the early 1990s, says Depay will only get better in England.
Kanchelskis, speaking exclusively to 888sport.com, said: “He is a very good player. He’s a skilful winger with good crossing ability and a great change of pace. He has the potential to become the best winger in the world.”
Kanchelskis also predicted a bright future for Anthony Martial, but he urged Van Gaal to play the young Frenchman as a central striker rather than as a winger.
Kanchelskis added: “Martial is no out and out winger like Ryan Giggs was in his early days. His best position is attacking down the middle. That is where his future will be.”
