Manchester United have completed a deal to bring 17-year-old defender Adam Matthews to Old Trafford.

According to a report in The Sun, Sir Alex Ferguson has wrapped up a deal which will see the Welsh youngster join in January.

Matthews, who has made 12 starts for Cardiff this season, was also being monitored by Arsenal - but United appear to have trumped their rivals.

An initial fee of £5m has been agreed with the fee rising dependent on appearances according to the report.
