Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has responded to Roy Keane’s comments that Manchester United should ‘just go and get’ Harry Kane.

The former United captain interrupted an argument between Gary Neville and Graeme Souness about United’s striking options, suggesting the club should sign Kane from Spurs.

Solskjaer praised the Tottenham striker, but said he is happy with the options he has.

“Roy is quite straightforward isn’t he,” Solskjaer said of Keane’s comments ahead of his side’s game against Partizan Belgrade.

“There’s the Kanes and the Lewandowski’s and ours are different types of players but I like someone who can finish half a chance and he’s one of the best but he’s a Tottenham player.

“Getting Anthony [Martial] back will be a massive boost for us and that will help Marcus [Rashford] too. I’m looking forward to the next few weeks with the forwards we have.”

Kane has been repeatedly linked with a move to Old Trafford in the past, and speculation that his future may lie away from Spurs has intensified during Mauricio Pochettino’s side’s current bad run of form.

Manchester United have struggled to fill the striking berth this season, with Martial’s injury a particularly untimely one, and Rashford unable to find form in a central striking role.

While a two-pronged wide forward approach with Rashford and Daniel James deployed in tandem showed signs of promise against Liverpool, Keane was insistent that his former club should look to Kane.

“Go and get Kane from Spurs,” Keane said.

“Easy, just go and get him. He’d score 20 goals a season for you with his eyes closed.”
