Wayne Rooney has been named among Jose Mourinho’s substitutes for Manchester United’s Premier League clash against Arsenal.

The 31-year-old club captain, whose off-field behaviour saw him hit headlines this week, drops to the bench having started in the 3-1 win at Swansea City prior to the international break.

Matteo Darmian plays at left-back ahead of Luke Shaw, while Anthony Martial starts on the left wing.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan is not named in matchday squad once again, despite starting a competitive match for the first time since September in Armenia’s 3-2 win over Montenegro.

As expected, Carl Jenkinson comes into Arsenal’s starting line-up for the injured Hector Bellerin. Aaron Ramsey makes his first Premier League start since the opening day of the season in midfield.

Line-ups

Manchester United: De Gea; Valencia, Jones, Rojo, Darmian; Carrick, Herrera; Mata, Pogba, Martial; Rashford.

Substitutes: Romero, Blind, Schneiderlin, Lingard, Young, Depay, Rooney.

Arsenal: Cech; Jenkinson, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal; Coquelin, Elneny, Ramsey; Ozil, Walcott, Sanchez.

Substitutes: Ospina, Gibbs, Gabriel, Xhaka, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Iwobi, Giroud.
