Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho could find himself facing an FA charge after kicking a bottle of water into the crowd during the dramatic 3-2 win over Crystal Palace on Monday night.

The Portuguese watched his side comeback from two goals down to win with a last-minute howitzer from Nemanja Matic to propel them back into second in the league.

Mourinho launched a foul-mouthed tirade during his half-time team talk and his frustrations continued into the second half as United conceded a second goal before staging their comeback.

And his anger showed as he booted a plastic bottle into the crowd after yet another sloppy mistake from his players but immediately apologised, with those who saw it finding the incident funny.

Mourinho diffused the incident as fourth official Lee Mason looked on, which the United boss praised as understanding the sort of frustrations that can be felt on the touchline.

“It was empty,” Mourinho said when explaining the incident. “One thing is with the referee and another thing is basic frustration of the game without any sort of aggression and good fun with people behind.

“Maybe they like me here because I keep saying this stadium and these fans are absolutely beautiful.”

Mourinho’s turbulent time on the touchline was compounded when he later slipped over while walking back to the dugout – although he did manage to see the funny side.
