Marcos Rojo is on the verge of leaving Manchester United and joining Boca Juniors, bringing his six-and-a-half year stay at Old Trafford to an end.

Rojo has not made an appearance for United since November 2019, appearing as a late substitute in a win over Brighton and Hove Albion.

The 30-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at Estudiantes and now appears set to return to his native Argentina with Boxa.

"It's likely that Jesse [Lingard's] loan deal with West Ham is going through, it's likely that Marcos goes back to Argentina," Solskjaer said.  “There's a little bit of paperowk left to be done.”

Solskjaer granted Rojo and his compatriot Sergio Romero permission to speak to other clubs at the start of the month.

Both players are set to see their Old Trafford contracts expire at the end of the season, but goalkeeper Romero is yet to line up a move.

"Sergio, I've not heard anything there apart from that he'll be with us for the rest of his contract," Solskjaer said.

Lingard is expected to complete a loan to West Ham imminently, which will see the 28-year-old play at the London Stadium until the end of the season.

United agreed a £1.5m loan fee with the east London club on Thursday, with West Ham also covering Lingard’s wages for the duration of his stay.

“We want Jesse to come back here revitalised and having shown at West Ham how good a player he is,” Solskjaer said.

"He's just been unfortunate with a couple of issues, some periods he had to stay away from us with Covid isolation and close contact.

“The rest of the team has done well, with little to no injuries, so he’s not forced his way into the team.”
