Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer recalls time he stopped scouting player after seeing his mohawk

Haircut caused the manager to end his pursuit of the player in question during his time in Norway

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he stopped his pursuit of a potential signing while coaching in Norway due to the player’s mohawk haircut.

Solskjaer coached Molde, whom he represented as a player in the mid-1990s, between 2011 and 2014 before returning to the club in 2015 and staying until 2018.

During one of those spells, the Norwegian brought a scouting trip to an abrupt end upon seeing the hair style sported by subject of the visit.

“I once went to see a player and as he walked out of the dressing room or through the tunnel onto the pitch, he had a mohican,” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“This was when I was back in Norway. I just said to my scout: ‘Let’s go home, not interested.’

“That was a very short scouting trip.”

Between his stints coaching Molde, Solskjaer managed Cardiff City for a brief period in 2014.

In 2018, the 48-year-old ended his second spell with Molde to become head coach at Manchester United, for whom he played between 1996 and 2007.

United’s next outing sees the second-placed side host 16th Brighton in the Premier League this Sunday.
