Timothy Fosu-Mensah is free to join Sergio Romero and Marcos Rojo in looking for a new club and leaving Manchester United this month.

Fosu-Mensah has made just three appearances for United since the start of the season, playing just 108 minutes, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is open to letting him go.

The 23-year-old's contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the campaign, when he will be able to leave as a free agent.

Solskjaer has already allowed Romero and Rojo to speak to other clubs in the hope of securing a transfer fee as part of any move and will let Fosu-Mensah do the same.

"I’m not sure if he will stay or if he’s going to take an option now," Solskjaer said.

"He’s not played enough so of course he’s been allowed to speak to clubs with a view to leaving now in January.

"It’s difficult when you have good players, talented players and you can’t give them game time. He’s now at the stage where he needs to go and play again.

"It might be end of January or in the summer where he finds somewhere else, he’s working hard so he’s ready for a move for any club he feels ready for."

Fosu-Mensah's United career was surprisingly revived during last season's Project Restart, as fellow right-back Diogo Dalot fell down the pecking order.

The Netherlands international made six appearances at the tail end of the campaign but has seen his opportunities limited since.

Fosu-Mensah is one of six United players whose contracts are set to expire in the summer, with Rojo, Romero, Juan Mata, Edinson Cavani and Lee Grant also facing uncertain futures.
